There's no birthday present quite like a surprise snowstorm and the day off for everyone! (Surprise in that we've had 60+ weather for a while now and all the flowers are coming up - not surprise in that the weather people have been warning us for a week now that the storm was coming.)
All told, we got about 14" of snow. Heavy, wet snow. And a TON of broken limbs and downed branches. The tree people around here are going to be busy for weeks to come. Power was out for much of the city for a couple days, but we got lucky and only had a few blips. So - we went out to play! Evan of course had a blast, making snowballs and snow angels and snow men and sliding down the slide headfirst into mounds of snow and painting the snow with food coloring... Drew wasn't so keen. He's shorter than the rest of us, and his movement was already hindered by snowpants, and it was very very heavy snow, so he would stand in a spot, try to move, then cry, "Mommy, STUCK!!" Yep. He couldn't go anywhere. We made him a path, which was ok for a little while, but it was still just not as much fun when you can't roll and run and jump like your big brother. Or play basketball in the snow. He really wanted that and couldn't figure why it wouldn't work. So we snuggled inside, which was great too! We had lasagna and brownies for dinner, and everyone (all five of us) slept hard at both nap and bedtime. It was definitely a good day! Plus, it's going to be 60 all weekend again, so all these mountains and mountains of snow will be gone quickly - perfect!
