Nap time

We played hard this morning! As Mike and I were getting ready to get in the car and head to Baltimore for the night, Evan climbed up on the couch - and fell asleep! He's never done that before, but he looked so comfy and happy... just like Mike sometimes does. Ever the good big brother, Ernie laid at the base of the couch and made sure Evan didn't fall off. It was a great little nap!

Box Fun

An Easter present arrived today. Inside was a great toy and some cool clothes and shoes. However, almost nothing beats a good box! Evan was in and out all evening, and he even took his blankie inside to make a little nest and laid down for a nap.

Chores

Evan is such a responsible little man. He is great at cleaning up the toys before bedtime, helping his teachers at school, and he's even starting to help with chores around the house! He has been working the most on helping to feed Ernie. As you can see in the video, Evan's got some work to do on his aim, but he is very conscientious about cleaning up his mess. He knows right where the cup goes and how to put it away. When he's done, he runs back to check out his handiwork... but I think Ernie eats too quickly for Evan to see! I only hope Evan stays this helpful for a long long time...

PS - I'm working on cleaning off the video and still camera, so back-posts for March are coming. Check out 03-27 Lacrosse, 03-01 Bedtime Update, and 03-02 Animal Sounds.

Lacrosse

Today was a gloriously sunny Spring Virgina day. It started out chilly in the low 40's, but was a lovely 65 for most of the afternoon. UVA had plenty of things to keep us outside and busy - we chose the noon Lacrosse game against Johns Hopkins. Evan had a blast watching all the big (college) kids, making new (toddler) friends on the hill, and hanging out with his friend Caleb. UVA ended up winning the game 15-6, and Evan was happy to cheer on each goal. He's got one third of the U-V-A cheer (spell the letters with your arms) down pat - as long as they keep winning, he'll keep working on the rest!

Rainy Day

Though it's been a week of gorgeous 70 degree weather in CVille, today started out cool and rainy. While most people would call that dreary and a perfect day to stay in bed or curl up on the couch, Evan calls it the perfect day to wear boots and his favorite coat! In full disclosure, Evan calls nearly every day the perfect day for the yellow raincoat (thanks, Grampa P!), and nearly every evening starts with him taking his shoes off and begging to stomp around the living room in his boots. But today really was the perfect day for it. Mommy even wore her yellow rain coat so we looked like a pair of matching ducks! Mommy's shoes aren't nearly as cool as the green froggy boots though - Evan's got the fashion market cornered with those!

Happy Spring Puddle Splashing!

Cheese!

Little Red Wagon

Spring time means wagon time! What little boy doesn't love a red wagon, and what parents don't love the wagon's utility? After lots of shopping and comparisons (Evan had a blast hanging out at ToysRUs and testing out all the models), we decided on the classic red wooden wagon, with real air tires and a handle that attaches to the wagon's axle. The steering is more reliable than with wheels that are independent of the handle, and there's more interior room than in the plastic wagons. We're sure to get tons of use out of this gift... Thank you, Gramma Barb!

Badger Fan

It's Tournament Time, and the Badgers are in it. Evan was very excited to wear his sweatshirt. It's new to him, but not a new shirt. Gramma and Grampa C got this shirt for their nephews nearly 40 years ago, and it's still as good as new. It's a great soft shirt, and this is one logo that never goes out of style. Evan is pretty good at recognizing Bucky too, which made wearing this shirt all the much more fun.

It was an up and down game, and Evan was right in it the whole time. He even had a happy "they're winning" face, and a sad "they lost" face.

Signs of Spring

Spring time has arrived in Charlottesville. The daffodils are up, the grass is green, and nearly all the snow has melted. We spent today outside in the warm 70-degree weather, exploring the yard, talking about how flowers smell and grow, identifying colors and sounds, and simply playing. Evan happily donned daddy's garden gloves and pitched in a hand picking up pine cones too. He chatted with and petted Ernie through the gate and tried to play fetch (Ernie wasn't playing, and Evan's throw needs some work). Evan learned a new word too: OUTSIDE. I'm sure as the weather hopefully continues to be nice that we'll hear much much more of that word!

Being Irish

Oye - I'm almost a month behind in blogging! My apologies. Life has been so busy and so much fun, it's sometimes hard to remember to stop and write about it. I'll be back-posting more shortly from Valentine's Day and our recent trip to the ACC Tournament. Until then...

Today was St. Patrick's Day, and of course we dressed in green. There were Irish themed parties at school, with green treats and art projects in green paint. We decorated cookies at home for dessert and had a blast with green frosting that may never come out of his hair! It was a really fun day, and regardless of whether he's actually Irish, this little leprechaun got lots of kisses today.

Snacktime

Snack time is one of the best times of the day! Evan let us know he was hungry the other day by bringing his tray in to the kitchen, clearly desiring for it to be filled up. Today he sat happily on the kitchen floor with his snack cup and a glass of milk, and contentedly gave a big "cheeeessse" the whole time. Just the other day in the car his snack of choice was none other than a hunk of brown bread from Outback. (Grampa P would be proud!) Yum!

Evan's Computer

Mommy went to a shop today and brought home the coolest toy - Evan's first computer! Well, sort of. It's actually a baby-sized keyboard that fits OVER a real keyboard, and after you install the software on the real computer, lets kiddos learn how to use the computer just like mommy and daddy do.

We haven't installed the software yet or even used the keyboard on the real computer, but Evan doesn't care. He is super happy to simply practice on the keyboard, any time, any where. We'll have him typing 100 words per minute soon...

Bounce-n-Play

There's a new playplace in town - the Bounce-n-Play. It's a huge space filled with everything any kid could want. There's a toddler area with a life-sized play house, tiny roller-coaster, dress up clothes, and mini-piano. There's an art area with tables, a huge color-on-me mural on the wall, and a glass shower-like space (pictured) encouraging kids to paint on the walls - they wash it down with a hose and squeegie every 30 minutes. There's plenty of space for birthday parties and a great cafe offering adult and kiddo foods. But the majority of the space is taken up by 5 humongous bouncy houses! Slides, bounce spaces, games, and general fun and exercise are encouraged and loved by all.

Evan visited the new space today with some friends, and had a great time. He loved the bouncy slides (we didn't take photos because my hands were full having as much fun going down the slides as he was!), and the art was a huge hit. Evan was too short for the painting smock, so we simply let him take off his shirt and make a mess. It was perfect! Evan also made his own play area by climbing the stairs then running pell-mell down the wheelchair ramp. What a ham.

Pictured with Evan is his friend Walker showing Evan how to paint on the glass wall.

Man in the Mirror

At our hotel at the ACC Tournament, most of the bathroom had mirrored walls all the way around. Evan couldn't have been happier - he loves looking at himself and hamming it up for his very attentive audience. After bath this morning, he hung out and made faces at himself. What a cutie!

ACC Tournament

Evan went to his first ACC Tournament this year, and we all had a blast! We drove down to Greensboro on Wednesday and settled into the hotel while daddy went to check out the arena and be at meetings for work. That evening we went with our friends to a party at a bar downtown, where Evan had an absolute blast sitting in the middle of the pool table, throwing pool balls, and generally being the center of attention.

The nights in the hotel were more adventurous than we were hoping for. Evan wasn't in his home element and in a small
room he can see mommy and daddy when he goes down to sleep, so he figured Why Sleep? He refused to go to bed and cried all night. We spent part of the evening snuggling on the couch since he was definitely happier in our arms, but the bulk of the night found Evan in bed between the two of us. It was great for a one-time treat. He very sweetly woke us in the morning by sitting up and softly patting us on the face. I could swear he said, "Action!"

Every morning Evan went down to breakfast in his UVA footie jammies and hat.
The ladies at the front desk gave him a pom-pom that is super fun to shake. He was so happy to have a breakfast buffet - yogurt, fruit, and potatoes to his heart's content - there's nothing better!

At the games we were lucky to sit close, and Evan paid extra special attention to Coach Tony to try to get some tips. During breaks in the action, Evan was more than happy to entertain everyone around him! He was quite the little star - he, mommy, and Sara made it on the jumbotron at least twice, and we found out via text that he was on ESPN for a moment too.

The Wahoos won their first game, so we got to stay an extra day. The second night was much better in the hotel, and the second game was a very very close nail-biter. All in all the whole weekend was tons of fun, and we can't wait to do it again next year. Go Hoos!

Bag Man

Evan has learned a lot from Mommy; most recently, the value of a good bag. He's taken to carrying bags around the house whenever he can. He digs diaper bags out of the closet, work bags from the office, and lunch bags from the pantry. Here he's carrying a Pooh diaper bag around the house, and his favorite, a custom-made AUCD diaper bag from one of my colleagues. They're just his size, and so much fun!

Animal Sounds Update

Here's a better video of Evan's animal sounds repertoire; in the original animal sounds post Evan refused to do all his sounds at once, so we pieced them together. Today he was a much better performer! Duck has always been his favorite, in fact that was pretty much his first word, but he's excellent at the rest now. He can spot a cow a mile away and has been known to moo in the backseat of the car when we pass a farm...it must be his Wisconsin blood.

Bedtime Update

Remember Evan's great bed time routine? He's added some new tricks! There are better (read: sloppier) kisses for us all, and even a great kiss for Ernie. Here's a minute of his kisses for everyone. We sure do love this little man!
